Boss 501

After meeting on MySpace and starting school at Chico State University in 2006, Esco Chris (keys/vocals) and Nick (alto sax/vocals) found they shared a rare common interest in true early reggae and ska music. During Nick's first semester, he and Chris quickly began looking for more members to start a band and play real reggae. Ben (bass) was also attending Chico State as a freshman, and being a former bandmate and longtime friend of Nick's made him an easy choice. Danny (drums) was living on Nick's floor in the dorms and began talking to Nick about the band while carrying his drum-set up to his room. Jamming commenced, Charlie (trombone/vocals) was brought into the band from the music program, and Boss 501's core was formed. Taking time out of his busy schedule as a high school music teacher and professional musician in the LA area, Daniel "Sterny" Sternberg (baritone sax), has played shows with Boss 501 all over southern California and Chico, and continues to record with the band. Today's line-up includes their newest member, Brian Matisek, on guitar.

Boss 501 is dynamic group of young musicians with strong influences from early reggae to jazz, and everything in between. They are primarily comprised of Chico State students, featuring ex-members of ska/reggae bands The Pedaltones and One Big Step. They've brought diverse crowds to venues all over California including The El Rey Theatre (Chico), The Knitting Factory (Hollywood), The Senator Theatre (Chico), Cafe Coda (Chico), Ramona Main Stage Theatre (Ramona), and many more. They've been lucky enough to share the stage with amazing international acts like The Wailers, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Mystics Roots, Chris Murray Combo, The Impalers, Deals Gone Bad, and See Spot. Boss 501 will continue to grow and bring hard-hitting Jamaican rhythms to the world.

People on the Moon

People on the Moon formed one drunken night out in Chico when Cameron Scott and Daniel Luna met and began to talk music. From there they knew that their musical powers combined created a new type of psychedelic grunge that hasn't been heard for years. They began playing small open mic nights building their set. Later Zack Goodman joined the band on guitar and the initial core of the group was formed. They were initially named Barba Rosa but soon switched to People on the moon. In early 2009 People on the Moon was circulating through members trying to find a drummer when Arda Ostel was added on drums. It took some time to figure out the final line up of the band and when the final member John Doris was added on vocals the sound of the group complete as well as the line up. They have been playing Chico for the last year and a half and plan to continue to play and conquer Chico's Music scene.
